Regional Refugee Forum launches new film TAKE ACTION ON HATE

Posted by RE Media on October 30th, 2017

‘TAKE ACTION ON HATE and make a difference for us all’

A new film for Refugee-led Community Organisations working across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, made by the Regional Refugee Forum North East.

To mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2017, we’re launching a new film which maps the actions an RCO can take if a member of their community becomes a victim of hate. It takes into account the distinct reasons which deter many asylum seekers and refugees from involving the police. Through interviews with Victims First Northumbria, Northumbria Police, Newcastle City Council Community Safety Team, and the Police & Crime Commissioner for Northumbria, the film explores routes to securing emotional and practical support to help someone recover from the impact of hate, whilst also highlighting the value anonymous reporting can have for promoting safety for the whole community.

The message is, if every RCO takes action on hate, they can make a difference for all.
