Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week

Posted by RE Media on February 6th, 2017

Victim’s First Northumbria is supporting Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week which takes place from 6th-12th February. The purpose of this week is to raise awareness of sexual abuse and sexual violence and create a support platform for victims.

At Victim’s First Northumbria we put victims at the heart of everything we do and strive to provide an excellent service to victims of crime, you can contact us even if you haven’t reported to the Police. Our trained coordinators are here to listen and work with you to develop a cope and recovery plan. Depending on your personal needs, we offer a range of services including emotional and practical support. Our coordinators can also help you access specialist services to meet your needs.

“I’ve been privileged to receive help from a dedicated and thoughtful person with the many interpersonal and professional skills as yourself. It relieves a lot of the tension and uncertainty having you as a point of contact to help me understand the process. The main benefit was having dependable, professional support when I have no-one else I can trust, I can’t quantify how valuable it is or was at the time.” – Sophie, 33 *

There are a number of organisations working to support those who have experienced sexual abuse and violence in the local area, such as Rape Crisis Someone Cares, Sunderland Counselling Services and Streetwise.

We are keen to work with all other partner services in our area to provide an excellent service for victims and this week to spread the news of sexual violence awareness week we are:

  • Being interviewed on Spark FM to discuss sexual violence, the impact on victims and where people can access support.
  • NIDAS (Northumberland Integrated Domestic Abuse Services) are coming in to talk to our team about issues surrounding sexual violence and about how we can work together to provide the best service to victims.
  • We are targeting Health Centres with information around sexual violence and about our service.
